From Folklore to Fantasy

Talitha LinehanNo wonder I love fantasy! I grew up in the land of leprechauns and fairy forts hearing tales of giants crossing causeways and a mythical place where nobody grows old (called Tir na n’Og).

I was born and raised in rural Ireland and spent most of my childhood in a small village in Co. Cork. We didn’t exactly tell stories around the fireplace. I’m not that old ;-)! But our television set offered only two channels and there was no such thing as local entertainment, at least not for kids. So we made our own.

When I wasn’t buried in a book (usually one by Enid Blyton, CS Lewis or Roald Dahl though I'd read anything I could get my hands on!), I was making up stories in my head. Sometimes I wrote them down. Other times I just imagined them into life in the forest that ran next to my house or one of the endless green fields around it. I have so many memories of lying in waist-high grass watching the clouds pass overhead and dreaming of how things might be.

I grew up of course (to some extent anyway!), went away to university, got my journalism degree and travelled the world. But I never grew out of my love of stories, most of all fantasy. Now I live in Los AngelesCalifornia, and write for a living. My dream is to publish my fantasy novel and to keep expanding this web site to give fantasy fans everywhere a home on the world wide web.

I love…
FANTASY! Yes you already know that. Also writing and talking and laughing and just life in general really.

I hate…
Ignorance. A witch – a real one and not the kind that flies on a broomstick – told me there’s only one sin in the world and that’s ignorance. It’s at the root of all evil.

iWorldI believe…
We know only a tiny fraction of what there is to know.
Our imagination is our only means of exploring the scope of the universe.
Our fantasy is someone’s reality.
Our reality is someone’s fantasy.
Everything possible exists.

Now you know me, I would love to get to know you too. Use this contact form to drop me a line anytime. And if you like my site, it would be awesome if you would take a minute to read this page and help spread the word to other fantasy fans. Thanking you!
