Wizards of Waverly Place

The Wizards of Waverly Place

Wizards of Waverly Place (2007 - present)
Created by:
Todd J Greenwald
Starring: Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T Austin

Disney hit the home-run with this mega hit TV series. It’s like everything they touch in the realm of fantasy turns to gold. I ran across the show while channel surfing recently and quickly became a fan.

Think of all the cool things you could have done as a teen if you’d just had magical powers. You could have waved a wand instead of slogging over algebra, flown out of detention on a broomstick and grown a huge wart on the school bully’s nose. If only!

The Harry Potter series did much to popularize teen witches and wizards in print and on the big screen. And Wizards of Waverly Place is keeping up that tradition on small screens all over the US.

The TV series, which debuted in October 2007 on the Disney Channel, is about three teen wizards in training, Alex Russo, her older brother, Justin, and her younger brother Max.

The siblings come from what appears to be a typcial family in New York City. Little does the outside world know that their dad, Jerry Russo, is a former wizard who gave up his powers to marry their non-magical mom. And now he's passing on everything he knows to his children, with often disastrous results.

Unfortunately, the young Russo wizards don’t always use their powers wisely and frequently get in trouble at home and at school. When they reach adulthood, they will have to take part in a magical tournament to determine which one of them gets to keep their powers as an adult.

We'll have to stay tuned to see who wins but my money is on Alex. Go girl power!
